Freelance Article Writing: Basic Points For Beginners

Want to join the freelance revolution? I don’t blame you. It seems as though the world and his dog is getting in on the act these days. However, as with most things in life getting started can be a little daunting regardless of your age or levels of experience. So, if you are looking for some advice and are ready to roll up your sleeves and get started then you have come to the right place. Here are some basic points for beginners:

Don’t give up the day job

Becoming a freelance article writer is not a get rich quick scheme. Unless you are incredibly lucky you are not going to land a plum job and be able to fund a luxury lifestyle with your work. In fact, you will be lucky to be able to fund any kind of lifestyle just by producing articles alone. So, no matter how tempting it is, don’t give up the day job. You will need to fit in your freelance writing in your spare time.

Think of it as a marathon rather than a sprint

You need to be prepared to be in this for the long haul. The most successful article writers are the ones that build a reliable client base over a long period of time. Just because you are barely breaking even now doesn’t mean to say that the outlook won’t be a whole lot rosier a few years further down the line.

Set up a blog

You need to be visible and you need to be professional. Setting up a blog or template website isn’t as complicated as it sounds. Think of it as your virtual shop front. You wouldn’t go into conventional business unprepared, so why should this be any different? Take the time to set up a site showcasing your services. If you don’t have the time or inclination and can afford it then hire someone to do this for you.

Be flexible

The more flexible you are in your approach the likelier you are to get decent work. If you are too set in your ways or have narrow parameters about the kind of work that you will and won’t accept then you are going to find it a lot harder to succeed than say someone who is open to all suggestions and offers. Sometimes the best jobs turn out to be the unlikeliest of jobs!
